Ingredients
50g unsalted butter
10-12 cloves
1 orange
1 litre unsweetened cloudy apple juice
500ml white rum
250ml apricot brandy or Cointreau
1 whole nutmeg, for grating (optional)
Method
The ultimate winter cocktail, this will warm you up instantly after a day outside.
- Place the butter in a saucepan over a low heat, add the cloves and use a speed-peeler to strip in the peel of the orange.
- When it begins to foam, add the apple juice, squeeze in the orange juice then pour in the rum and apricot brandy (or Cointreau).
- Bring to a simmer, then turn off the heat and decant into mugs or toddy glasses, discarding the orange peel, if you like. Finish with a grating of nutmeg, if using.
